Mackie attended Warren Easton Sr. High School and graduated from the high school program North Carolina School of the Arts. He then went on to graduate from Juilliard in 2001.
While still a student at Juilliard, he played Tupac Shakur in the play, “Up Against the Wind” in New York.

Anthony Mackie began his acting career in Off-Broadway productions such as “Topdog/Underdog” and “Talk”, for which he won an OBIE Award. He also starred in various stage productions, including August Wilson’s plays and Shakespeare’s “The Bacchae”.
