Steven Avery and Lynn Hartman are no longer together. Lynn called off her engagement on October 1, 2016.

Lynn Hartman met Steven Avery after she watched his life story on Netflix's docuseries Making a Murderer.

Lynn, who was going through a divorce with her husband, was advised to watch the series by her daughter. 

Their story started in February 2016 when Hartman immediately fell for Steven. She initially felt sorry for him and tried writing a letter. Avery replied promptly and after a few letter exchanges, things started getting personal between them. 

Their relationship advanced very quickly. After a few visits and hundreds of letters and telephone conversations, Steven and Lynn got engaged in September 2016. Steven popped the question just after seven months after first hearing from Lynn.

The pair's engagement only lasted for a month before Lynn called it off. However, they had some beautiful and some horrifying moments in those 7 months changing both of their lives.

Steven and Lynn never tied the knot together, instead, Lynn was forced to hide and change states to stay safe. 

Why The Pair Never Got Married?

Steven Avery and Lynn Hartman never got married to one another. Lynn realized she would not be comfortable living with him after he gets parole.

Avery and Hartman's unusual romance sprung beginning in February 2016, but their relationship ended as quickly as it started. Lynn was seeking advice from authorities to limit Avery from contacting her.

Steven flattered her by saying she was beautiful and she was the one, according to The Sun, during their relationship. At that time, Steven had already left his fiance by July 2016.

Steven was very demanding and vulgar towards Hartman from the very first phone call. She explained to The Sun saying he would call her by the names of her private parts, which she was not at all comfortable with. Lynn tried setting boundaries but Steven always wanted their conversation to go down the erotic way.

Hartman excused his behavior as she believed he had lost all his social etiquette after being so long behind bars. 

Lynn appeared on Dr. Phill's show in 2016. When asked if she was willing to settle in the woods after getting married to Steven, she replied she was not comfortable doing that. It was a point of change in their relationship. 

According to a YouTube video from Dr. Phill Show, Lynn responded by saying she called off their engagement, ending the relationship with Steven on October 1, 2016. 

Lynn started receiving death threats and abuse online with Steven's fans calling her "Gold Digger" among other things. Hartman had to end the relationship after being abused online. Lynn has been trying to avoid Steven for the past half a decade.
