Austin Langworthy's Men's Ice Hockey Recruiting Profile

Writer Matthew Cannon

Personal Statement

Ever since I started playing hockey at the age of seven, I have wanted to play college hockey.  First it was at Minnesota State University in Mankato for the Mavericks, and then it was for the national champion University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs.  My passion for this game has affected my entire life:  my extracurricular activities, the peers I hang out with, the way I spend my free time.  This sport has given me a REASON, a PURPOSE.  It started out from a mother who loves the sport and wanted to get us involved, grew into a way to keep my mom and my siblings close after a dramatic divorce, and it has ended up being the only thing that I look forward to everyday, the one thing that motivates me and drives me to become better.  I have put in many hours of puckhandling, shooting, weightlifting, plyometrics, writing down my goals every time I get on the ice, every period, every shift.  I have done my research on the game and how to perfect those skills.  One of the main things I have noticed about successful people is the fact that they NEVER give up.  No matter how hard times get, no matter what other people may say about me, no matter what the odds are.  I am determined to play this sport I love.  I am determined to go to college.  I am determined to make a name for myself and my family.  I am never giving up on that dream.
