Battle Lake Murder Suicide, What Clues Did The Police Find?

Writer William Burgess

Police responded to a call at 2:30 pm on Monday and found the bodies of Steven Kern, 59, and Susan Kinnunen, 58, in a house in rural Battle Lake.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of two people who died Monday in a suspected murder-suicide in rural Battle Lake.

The deceased are Steven Kern, 59 years old, and Susan Kinnunen, 58 years old, according to an Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The case is still under investigation, but authorities believe that Kern shot Kinnunen before turning the gun on himself.

No motive has been released at this time. Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff has not identified the gunman and this investigation is still ongoing.

The probe also involves the Minnesota BCA.

The sheriff responded to a report of two persons being discovered dead in a home on November 21 at around 2:24 p.m.

According to the sheriff, the incident was an isolated occurrence, and there is no current danger to the general public.

The incident is being called a “shooting,” but the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office won’t release their identities or the official cause of death until later.

The incident’s exact location hasn’t been disclosed by the authorities either.

The inquiry is still ongoing. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office is receiving assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Midwest Medical Examiners Office with the investigation.
