Personal Statement

Hello coaches, first off I would like to thank you for taking the time to take a look at my profile. As a potential collegiate athlete I am always trying to find ways to better myself as a man, as well as a basketball player. I feel that having the opportunity to play on a collegiate team would provide me with new experiences and bring me to a level that I am looking forward to being a part of. Being in Hawaii, the competition slowly becomes stale. The reason being, I always see the same people at club games and/or in school games. After seeing the same people for so long you start to pick up on their tendencies, weaknesses, strengths, as well as their play styles. I want to challenge myself with people from around the nation, and see where I really stand in the community of basketball. What makes me a good candidate for your team is that I play defense. I understand what my weaknesses are when guarding an offensive player. For example, if the offensive player is faster than me, I take a step back to control the angle and not allow him to get around me or attack the gap. As a guard I like to get rebounds, sometimes people underestimate my jumping ability, which allows me to have the element of surprise.  Also, I am a good listener and very coachable. I am always willing to accept feedback or criticism. I understand that my way may not always be the best, and that there are other options that can work better. I know there are aspects of my game that can be improved and I am willing to hear the feedback and implement it into how I play. What sets me apart from others is my mentality, I strongly believe in the idea of team basketball. I feel that in order to win games there needs to be good chemistry within a team, and it starts at practice. Usually, at practice i try to give a high-five to everybody, whether it be for a good play or for just completing a drill. However, this doesn't take away from my competitive nature, I'm always trying to be first. In doing this I hope to raise the level of play for my team. Basketball is a team sport, and there is no individual that can win a game of basketball by themselves.
