Candia Park Village Hotel Review, Crete

Writer Jessica Cortez

From self-catering to all-inclusive there’s something for every budget. Restaurant Agapi (which means "love") is the main spot on the pretty central square where breakfast and dinner are served. There’s a small à la carte menu but it's hardly worth bothering with because the buffet has a good choice of starters, salads and hot dishes (from moussaka to spaghetti bolognese).

Breakfast is fairly limited but features cereals, olives, cheeses, meat cuts, pancakes, all the hot staples (bacon, eggs, beans) and some fresh fruit. Fresh juice costs extra. Coffee (served in insulated jugs) is strong and hot.

Lunch is served at Filli tavern which is fringed by sweet-smelling pine trees (and within refreshing seabreeze distance of the sandy beach). A small but balanced menu includes generously portioned snacks (burgers, pizzas) and several protein-based vegetarian options (flame-sizzled burgers are delicious). Fish is fairly expensive (swordfish 39.80kg) but fresh.

Due to Covid, the Kafenion isn't operating.
