Early Life and Career of Charles Kelley

Charles Kelley was born in Augusta, Georgia, in 1981 and grew up with two older brothers. He began his music career at the age of 11, forming a band with his brothers called Inside Blue. The band caught the attention of a major label after releasing a five-song collection.

Kelley attended Lakeside High School in Evans, Georgia, before enrolling at the University of Georgia in Athens. He worked in construction and as an accountant before achieving success as a musician.

Lady Antebellum’s Rise to Fame

In 2006, Charles Kelley formed the country music group Lady Antebellum with Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood. Their self-titled debut album in 2008 included hit singles “Love Don’t Live Here,” “Lookin’ For A Good Time,” and “I Run To You.” The album was certified platinum and helped them win awards from the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association.

Their second album Need You Now, released in 2010, earned the band their first Grammy and they became the first group in the CMA’s history to win Single of the Year for two consecutive years. Lady Antebellum’s rise to fame included ending Rascal Flatts’ six-year reign as Vocal Group of the Year at the 2009 Country Music Awards.

Charles Kelley’s Music Career

In June 2020, Lady Antebellum changed their name to Lady A due to the Confederate origins of their original name. Charles Kelley, the band’s lead vocalist, also pursued a solo project that resulted in a debut single called “The Driver” featuring Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay. The song received a Grammy nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. In 2016, Kelley released his solo debut studio album, The Driver.

In addition to his work with Lady A and his solo project, Kelley has co-written songs with other country artists, including Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, and Miranda Lambert.

Charles Kelley’s Nashville Real Estate Ventures

In 2012, Charles Kelley purchased a 6,682-square-foot Nashville home for $1.6 million. He later sold the property for $2.91 million in an off-market deal in 2017.

The following year, Kelley and his wife purchased a 1930s traditional home with the intention of renovating and flipping it. However, they ended up living in the property instead.

Marriage and Family

Charles Kelley is married to Cassie McConnell, a music rep who represents several country musicians including her brother-in-law, Josh Kelley. They have one son together, Ward Charles Kelley.
