China Claims To Have Found A Perfectly Preserved Dinosaur Embryo

Writer William Burgess

Dinosaur embryo was a recent discovery the Chinese scientist made. Scientists from China announced that they had discovered Ganzhou in southern China.

After the discovery, the egg was taken for the study, and later reports showed that the embryo was about 66 million years old.

The studies revealed that the embryo is a toothless theropod dinosaur or oviraptorosaur. It was named baby Yingling.

After the research, it was revealed that the egg was 7 inches in length. The embryo inside of it had a length of 11 inches from the head to the tail.

Scientists studied the egg and came up with some theories about species and height. It was estimated that an adult version of this embryo could extend to the size of more than 3 to 4 meters.

They also claim that the dinosaur was ready for the hatch when the destruction took place. Scientists say that they are the luckiest to find this embryo.

The fossils of the baby dinosaurs are very brittle and break easily. And this embryo is not just a baby dinosaur, but this embryo didn’t even hatch, making this discovery even more fascinating.

Journal iScience published on Tuesday an article about the embryo in which the co-author of the research, Zelenitsky, said, ā€œIt is an amazing specimen … I have been working on dinosaur eggs for 25 years and have yet to see anything like it.ā€

The researcher from China, the UK, and other parts of the world visited China to study baby Yingliang. Previously, these types of embryos have been found, and scientists have studied the movement of the embryos before hatching.

They concluded that the chicken babies are likely to move inside the egg to change their positions before hatching. This process is known as ā€˜tucking.’

They found that the baby dinosaur before hatching used to perform the same movement, which is crucial in the hatching process.

The embryo was in the tucking position moving around to get their limbs and body parts moving. A few days before they hatch, their right-wing goes on top of their head to give a stabilized position for the dinosaur to crack the egg.

However, it seemed that the embryo was trying to crack the egg but could crack it because it was stuck under the ground. The pressure underground didn’t allow it to hatch at the moment, and the baby Yinglang died.

CT Scan Reveals The Inside Of The Egg

The picture we see today is thanks to the CT scans scientists carefully performed. They said they had to face many difficulties scanning the bones inside the egg because it was very fragile, and they couldn’t physically open the egg to study.

The sediment fillings inside the egg made the CT scans difficult, but they could still get a perfect image. It was seen that the embryo’s head was lying on the belly while its tiny feet were near its forelimbs.

The Embryos right-wing hand was on its head, and the tail was curled from the peak oval side of the egg.

Previous Embryos Discovery

The scientist claims that the previous discoveries have missed some part of the fossil from a specific dinosaur. They have discovered many skeletons, but they mostly failed to find a perfect and complete one.

Baby Yinglang comes in the list of those fossils that have been found perfectly preserved, and it does not miss any part. It was later designed on the computer to show how it would look.

Do Dinosaur Eggs Get Sold?

When it comes to knowing that some fossils are being discovered from a specific area, they decide to dig out a fossil and sell it in the international black market.

However, countries like China and Mongolia have stringent laws for the illegal exportation of fossils. They keep specific places in the restricted line to prevent anyone from breaking the fence to sell fossils in the black market.

When Did Dinosaurs Go Extinct?

Dinosaurs have ruled on the earth for more than 170 million years. They had thousands of different species and had all kinds of sizes. According to scientific theories, dinosaurs lived 66 million years ago.

After the asteroid hit the earth with a tremendous hit, the whole ecosystem of the earth had been changed for millions of years. The bigger in size species that luckily survived the incredible impact could live much longer due to lack of food.

The earth was covered with the cloud having the highest sulfur content, which causes suffocation for the bigger breeds as well as the other breed living. The meat-eaters died as well as the vegetarians.

The vegetation worldwide went extinct millions of years ago due to acidic rain from sulfur clouds. The smaller breeds weighed less than 5 to 10 pounds and somehow managed to survive.

After about 20 million years, the earth returned to its stable state. New breeds were introduced into the world.

How Many Fossils Have Been Discovered?

After the stone age, when science began to circulate in people’s minds, then discoveries took the turn to check on the past destruction. Scientists are discovering dinosaur fossils frequently.

Many are kept in the museum, while some were taken for the study to search for the age of dinosaur extinction period. Scientists estimated that the fossils that have been discovered up till now are in the thousands.

The estimated number of fossils in the whole world is more than trillions. However, all the fossils can not be discovered because these things take time and effort.

There are theories that many fossils might have become lava due to the movement of plates in the earth. Some fossils are known to turn sand decaying more than 60 million years.

Scientists also believe that many dinosaur species are likely to be discovered underwater. This theory was proposed because many special forces made their way to the marine for a cooler environment at the time of destruction but died due to hunger.
