Clarence Henderson Smallwood – Metropolitan Funeral

Clarence H. (Coy) Smallwood departed this world on April 3, 2018. He was born June 30,1946 to the late Dorothy and Jimmy Smallwood in Bertie County, North Carolina. Clarence moved to Norfolk,Virginia as a young child. He received his education in Norfolk Public Schools including Booker T. Washington High School. Later he joined the United States Army and served as a Paratrooper. Clarence had many fond memories of his time in the service. Routinely having multiple jobs simultaneously, Clarence was known as a hard worker. He began working as a young boy delivering groceries. He spent summers doing farm work in North Carolina. As a young man he worked as a butcher at Eddie’s Market. Clarence was a supervisor at Camelia Foods for many years. He then went on to be a steel cutter at Hall and Hodges Steel for 20 years. He did lawn care, eventually having his own lawn care business. Clarence is predeceased by a brother Jimmy Smallwood Jr., and two sisters, Emma Gibson and Marie Smallwood. To remember him he leaves his wife Karolee Smallwood with whom he has been with for 47 years; a son Jeffery Johnson (Stephanie); daughters, Kesia Johnson, Torrie Jones (Bobby), Keeonya Bradley; a brother William Smallwood (Donna); two sisters, Annie Smallwood, Rose Pettaway; eight grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
