  • Acting Serbian President Natasa MICIC called for parliamentary elections on November 13, 2003 due to Prime Minister Zoran ZIVKOVIC’s inability to implement reforms through the National Assembly.
  • One of the biggest concerns surrounding the parliamentary elections was the possibly of a low voter turnout. Recent opinion polls show that roughly 39% of the registered voters intended to vote in the elections.
  • According to the Republican Electoral Commision (RIK), election lists were submitted by 11 parties, 6 coalitions and one group of citizens.
  • The UN International Criminal Tribunal issued a ban on former president Slobodan MILOSEVIC and former SRS leader Vojislav SESELJ from campaigning in the elections since they are currently on trial in The Hague for war crimes.
