Colchester police have released the names of the two people murdered in what is being investigated as a murder-suicide that happened on the night of Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
On the very next day, Thursday afternoon, Colchester police identified the victims as 37-year-old Michael Bergeron and 37-year-old Melissa Bergon, both were residents of Colchester.
On Wednesday, police acted on a report of a gunshot at the Wellesley Condo Complex on the 200 block of Holy Cross Road at around 9:43 p.m.
Police said that the primary outcome indicated that Melissa Bergeron shot Michael Bergeron before turning the gun on himself. Both victims were married to each other.
According to the investigators, one child was also in the apartment during the incident.
However, the child was handed over to their relatives for better care. Authorities said that they rushed to the crime spot and went to neighbors for help, who was the one who reported the scene on 911. Later, a handgun was recovered at the scene.
Colchester Police Chief Douglas Allen said that the couple had no known domestic violence records.
The police department expects the investigation to continue through Friday, March 3, 2023.
A news channel reported that one of their crime reporters saw the law enforcement going in and out of the apartment, and crime tape was put up around it.
