The Rocky Patches in Djokovic’s Marriage

Novak Djokovic has been married to his childhood sweetheart Jelena since 2014. The couple has two children together: Stefan, seven, and Tara, four.

However, their relationship has not always been smooth sailing. In 2019, split rumours were rampant as Jelena didn’t attend any of his tennis matches at Wimbledon.

The couple insisted that this was simply because Tara was too young to come along.

The fifth wedding anniversary of Djokovic and Jelena also went unmarked in public.

This was quite a contrast to the previous year when Jelena posted a loving message to celebrate their anniversary.

These rumors were fuelled further by comments by tennis pundit John McEnroe in July 2017. He suggested that Djokovic’s poor form was due to off-court issues with his family.

He even compared his downward slide to that of golfer Tiger Woods, who split from his wife Elin Nordegren when it was revealed that he had cheated on her with 120 women.

Djokovic’s Response to the Rumors

Novak Djokovic was surprised by the comments but responded in a gentlemanly manner. He said that McEnroe had his right to say the things he wanted to say.

He continued that he didn’t necessarily agree with that, but it was the pundit’s right to air his views.

Many sports analysts have noted that Djokovic has always taken a dignified path when faced with allegations.

Affair Rumors with Other Women

Novak Djokovic has also faced rumours that he had an affair with another woman.

Among these women is Serbian pop star Natasa Bekvalac, with whom he was linked from 2011 to 2016.

This rumor surfaced when the pair was seen together in Ibiza on separate holidays over the same summer.

Another of Djokovic’s alleged affairs was with Bollywood’s Deepika Padukone.

The two were photographed together frequently, and Padukone is said to have played tennis with Djokovic on several occasions. However, both parties have denied the claims.

Djokovic’s Response to the Affair Rumors

Djokovic has denied these rumors in interviews and press conferences. He once said “I believe in God, and I say that very honestly. I believe in my marriage.

I believe in myself as a man who takes care of himself and his responsibilities.” He has also called his relationship with Natasa merely a friendship.
