Personal Statement

From the moment I started to play volleyball, I realized my passion and love for the sport.  Volleyball, along with academics, family and my religious beliefs are most important to me.   I started playing volleyball in 5th grade at my elementary school.  In 8th grade, I joined my first club team which created a true interest, attraction, and commitment to volleyball in me.  I decided I wanted to improve my volleyball skills and play more often against higher level competition, so I tried out for the Ozaukee Wave club team in 8th grade.   After making the team at Ozaukee Wave, I dedicated myself to the sport that I have come to love and do not know what I would have done without it.  Volleyball is always on my mind.  I also engage in private lessons coached by former Division 1 players and attend 3 - 4 volleyball camps during the summer.

Even though good grades do not come easy for me, my work ethic and upbringing have carried me through my classes.  I have maintained a 3.5 GPA and strive to push myself in every way.  I am taking AP classes (AP Environmental Studies) this year and I am very interested in pursuing a degree in Biology, Marine Biology, or Ecology.  My family and I are very active and we enjoy the outdoors.  Hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, and camping are some of my favorite outdoor activities.  However, I took my first computer programming class this trimester and I really enjoyed that class so I might also be interested in computers.  I am taking a Multimedia computer class next trimester.  

Currently, I am playing on the 16's age group at Wisconsin Premier Volleyball Club.  I also play for the 18s team when they are missing a player.  While my best position is Setter,  I play the full rotation on my club team.  Playing these other positions has helped me improve my passing, defense, and hitting skills.  Being on this team includes engaging in conditioning, skills training, and team practices multiple times per week.  Playing in the Great Lakes Power League,  regional, and state tournaments comprise my weekends during the club season.   As a sophomore, I was selected to play on the High School Varsity team, and I am striving to be nominated to the All-State Volleyball team during my high school career.  

By the way, I also work part time at the local grocery store and volunteer my time to help others through my church.
