How Group E standings changed with each goal in Japan-Spain, Germany-Costa Rica matches
William Taylor
There was a thrilling finale to Group E at the World Cup in Qatar.
There were nine changes to the final table over the course of two hours and two matches, and all four teams — Japan, Spain, Germany and Costa Rica — occupied one of the two qualification spots at some stage.
Japan and Spain eventually went through after Japan came from behind to beat Spain 2-1 at the Khalifa International Stadium. There was also goal line drama…
Germany crashed out, despite a 4-2 win over Costa Rica, who, at one stage, thought they had booked their place in the round of 16 at the expense of Spain.
