Huntsville city councilman Devyn Keith was arrested and charged with fourth-degree theft on February 2. After being detained for several theft charges, he apologized to his family, community, and city employees.

At the beginning of the Huntsville City Council Meeting, Devyn made several statements.

He said that the last week was the longest of his life and apologized to his family, the community, and to city employees. He said, “What you are looking at is the maturing of a man.” Furthermore, in the end, he said because of his illegal actions, city officials have had to deal with stuff outside of their job description.

Here is the part of his statement, “I am sorry to every city employee, every director that I’ve had lunch with and moved heavens and earth with to make a difference in my community. I am sorry to every police officer that was impacted and every city employee that was impacted by the ripple effect of situations in my life,”

He also apologized to his family for putting them through this situation.

In the end, he apologized to the community, in which he said that he was sorry to his community because that was never about the man but the mission.

Devyn ended his statement by recusing himself from the rest of Thursday’s meeting.

His statement came after he was arrested in the early hour of the morning on Wednesday.

Huntsville city District 1 Councilman is facing a total of four theft charges for incidents.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MSCO), the incident occurred at separate Walmart locations.

Fourth-degree theft falls in a class A misdemeanor in the state of Alabama.

It is punishable upon conviction of more than one year in state prison and a maximum $6,000 fine.

Keith will always get support, but his actions are solely on himself, said Chris Horn, his supporter, and friend.

Horn also said that as a proud man of Huntsville, it’s about the people first, and we fully hope that he considers this to consider the people before he thinks about himself.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MSCO) handled the arrest warrant. However, the case was investigated by the Huntsville Police Department.

Devyn released a statement on his official Facebook page in which he said that on the advice of his legal counsel, he would no longer be discussing his ongoing litigation. He received a court date and would give his final statement at tomorrow’s city council meeting.

The action began on February 2, when Devyn was charged and arrested for fourth-degree theft. The Huntsville Police Department said officers had been called to officers were dispatched to 6140 University Drive before 1 p.m. on an irrelevant call.

While on the spot, police were alerted to a shoplifting suspect, later identified as Huntsville city Councilman Devyn Keith.

After that coincidence, Devyn said in a statement that while using self-checkout at Walmart, he had mistakenly forgotten to scan $20 pair of headphones before leaving Walmart.
