Ian Andrew Hecox is an American YouTube personality and comedian who, along with Anthony Padilla, founded the popular sketch comedy duo Smosh. As of November 2016, Smosh had more than 22 million subscribers and six billion views on YouTube. Hecox has produced several series, including Ask Charlie, Smosh Pit Weekly, El Smosh, and Honest Game Trailers, among others.

Every year, Smosh earns between $7 and $10 million from their various entertainment endeavors, making them among the highest paid celebrities on YouTube. The duo sold Smosh to Alloy Digital in 2011 in an all-stock deal, which eventually evolved into Defy Media.

In June 2017, Anthony Padilla left Smosh, and in November 2018, Defy Media shut down. In reaction to the company failing, Anthony revealed in a YouTube video that he and Hecox sold Smosh for all stock on the promise that the company would eventually go public, which it never did. While they worked at Defy, they earned a decent salary, but did not benefit from the enormous success of Smosh.
