Is Sarah Shahi & Adam Demos Really Dating Together?

Writer Rachel Young

Netflix’s show Sex/Life rotates around the perfect love chemistry between its leads. In the series, which is considered a true story, Billie Connelly (Sarah Shahi) fantasizes about her sexual ventures with her ex-boyfriend, Brad (Adam Demos), as a way to escape her present serene reality in the suburbs.

If the actors’ love bonding is strong, that’s because it was real: Demos, 35, and Shahi, 41, are a real couple. They met on the set of Sex/Life, which shot amid the COVID-19 pandemic starting in August 2020.

Shahi told People she was immediately attracted to Demos (before seeing the full-frontal scene everyone is talking about). “I said, ‘Well, that’s a tall drink of water.’ When I first met Adam, I was really blown away with him,” she said. “We met in the makeup trailer and we just got on instantly. We had the exact same taste in music. We had the same taste in whiskey and tequilas and I was really blown away by him just as a person and all I knew was that I wanted more.”

That attraction built as they proceeded to work together. “And then I got an opportunity to act with him, and I will say, sitting across the other side of the camera with him was just a privilege,” she continued. “You’re only as good as your scene partner. He’s amazing in the show.”

While talking to Oprah Daily, Shahi also experienced another kind moment from the early days of their relationship. This one came during the show’s table read, which happened in early 2020. “I remember I was sitting between Mike [Vogel] and Adam. I was cold, so Adam gave me his jacket, something to put my hands in,” she shares. “We all had instant chemistry. From the moment we said hello to each other, there was a warmth.

In May 2020, months before Sex/Life began filming; Shahi filed for divorce from her ex-husband, Shameless’s Steve Howey, according to People. They had been married for 11 years and share three children: William Wolf, 10, and twins Violet Moon and Knox Blue, 6.

Speaking to Oprah Daily, Shahi says her family life helped her to link her Sex/Life character. “There’s a lot about Billie that I could relate to. I’m a mother of three kids. Something happens, once you’re in a long-term relationship or become a parent—you act as if those desires that you felt back in the day before you have kids, you repress them,” she says.

The two have started showing their love on social media. The duo has given impressions into their relationship, from posting pictures of their New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day celebrations to posting snapshots of themselves going to apple orchards and out to dinner.

Demos and Shahi became “Instagram official” on Valentine’s Day when Shahi called him her “forever squeeze.

In celebration of Demos’s birthday in May, Shahi wrote an even more heartfelt message on Instagram. “Not exactly sure how two people on opposite sides of the world could have more in common, we’re meant to meet, were meant to be together. But I do know I met my soulmate. I do know I found my forever. I do know I’ve never loved deeper, harder, more ferociously. I do know I’m overly grateful for him. I do know I’ve loved him for a thousand lifetimes before and will love him for a thousand lifetimes more.”

On that post, Sex/Life showrunner and creator Stacy Rukeyser commented, “You’re welcome,” playfully taking credit for their meeting. While season 2 of Sex/Life has not been confirmed, the first season’s finale shows that Brad and Billie’s relationship is starting back up again. You know what that suggests, there will be more time for the happy couple to spend together.
