Rashad McCants and Khloe Kardashian dated previously. As he heads back into the spotlight, many are shocked that the two ever crossed romantic paths, while the rest are saying Khloe is his “claim to fame”. He has addressed that elephant in the room before: the so-called ‘Kardashian curse’.
At the start of 2023, former NBA player Rashad McCants debunked the Kardashian curse among NBA players. He was considered to be one of its victims early on in his career. It comes after Rashad and Khloe Kardashian had a whirlwind romance between 2008 and 2009, but it only lasted a few months.
Rashad McCants dated Khloe Kardashian
Rashad McCants and Khloe Kardashian dated for nine months. In October, he publicly wondered how life would have been for him if he had kept dating The Kardashians star.
The two were introduced by Super Bowl winner Reggie Bush and quickly hit it off. They dated for roughly seven months before Khloe ended the fling in January 2009.
At the time, McCants was in the last season of a short-lived NBA career, when he played for Minnesota Timberwolves. He’s convinced he would have been picked for another team if they stayed together.
He debunks ‘Kardashian curse’
When asked about the biggest “what if” in his basketball career, Rashad said: “We’re going to soccer practice today! TMZ would make sure they’re there. ‘Kanye (West), where we going to lunch, bro?'”
He added: “‘We’re going to lunch is where we’re going. It’s me! We’re out here now.’ I wanna feature on the album. Let me give you context. If I had stayed with her, I probably have went to another team.”
Rashad has openly admitted that dating Khloe is his biggest regret of his NBA career, as people doubted his commitment to the sport. He reckons he’d be a $70 million player if it wasn’t for Khloe.

Fans say Khloe is his ‘claim to fame’
When Rashad came back into the spotlight recently, NBA fans and Kardashians dismissed him, claiming that Khloe is the only reason he ever became famous. However, some had no idea they dated.
One fan said: “At least he knows what made him more famous.” Another wrote: “They dated? Never knew. He’s more famous for that corny crown than his relationship with her.”
“Rashad McCants blamed dating Khloe Kardashian for his career not panning out. There’s zero chance of self-awareness, accountability, or inward introspection,” reacted another.
