Personal Statement
My name is Kyle Obana and I am currently a Junior in the class of 2013 at Punahou School in Honolulu Hawaii. I am currently 5'10, 170lb. I run a 4.65 40yd dash, have a vertical of 33in (Nike Sparq Combine) and a 3.96 20yd shuttle (PIAA Combine 2011) and a 4.00 20yd shuttle (Nike Sparq Combine - tied for fastest at the combine). I have a Sparq rating of 81.6 (top 7% class of 2013). My love for football began at the age of 11 when I played for the Manoa Paniolos in Pop Warner. My last year of Pop Warner my team was the 2nd place state champions. In 8th grade I played for the Punahou Intermediate football team where I started every game at defensive back and 2 games at linebacker and was a team captain. In 9th grade I played for the Punahou Junior Varsity football team where I started at defensive back. Our Junior Varsity team tied for the championship that year. My Sophomore year I was the only defensive back to make Varsity but didn't get much playing time. As a Junior I played defensive back, outside linebacker, and special teams. Our team finished the season 2nd in the state with an overall record of 11-3, losing the championship game 30-24. I am known as being someone who hits hard and loves to deliver contact. Playing football under great coaches has helped me develop work ethic and values that will carry me throughout life. In school I take very challenging courses and have been a part of the Punahou Symphony since my freshman year as a cellist. A dream of mine is to play at the Division 1-AA level in the Ivy Leagues or at the Division 3 level at a school that provides an excellent education. I am known to be a hard worker in football as well as in the classroom and will carry the value of hardwork with me throughout highschool, college, and life. I was selected as the OC16 Student Athlete for balancing football, school work, and the cello while excelling in all three. I always put as much effort into everything I do such as lifting, running, studying, getting extra help, and being as efficient and productive as I can because time is one thing I can never get back. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement.
