On “Love Somebody” singer Rotimi is addressing his lover. And she is portrayed as a melancholy individual, someone who for one reason or another is unable to be truly happy. So the singer is encouraging her to liven up. And the way he is doing so is by inviting her to “love somebody”, that of course being himself. In other words, he feels that the remedy to her depression would be to love him freely. And the implication is that the vocalist believes so because he himself loves her and is wholly dedicated to making her happy.

At the time, the singer is still in the process of building a brand musically, having already established himself as an actor as part of the cast of 50 Cent’s hit Power series.
The music video to this track, which was handled by director June Bae and inspired by the story of Adam and Eve, features the singer’s real-life girlfriend, a Tanzanian musician by the name of Vanessa Mdee. And their relationship is also said to be the inspiration behind the lyrics.
