Marvin Hamlisch was an American composer and conductor who was born in New York, New York. He was a musical child prodigy and began playing everything he heard on the radio when he was five. He was accepted to the Juilliard Pre-College Division when he was seven and went on to graduate from Queens College.

Hamlisch began writing music for various artists and had his first hit song, “Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows” in 1965. He went on to win four Emmy Awards, three Oscars, a Tony, and four Grammy Awards (EGOT). He is one of only 11 EGOTs in history and won the Pulitzer Prize. He is one of only two people to have received all five honors. He also won two Golden Globe Awards. He passed away in August 2012.
