The speechlessness the American country music duo Dan + Shay is referring to is the awe-striking effect their partners have on them, particularly when they dress for the occasion. In fact “Speechless” was written in direct reference to the feelings the singers experienced “the moment we first saw our beautiful brides walking down the aisle”.  However, the setting of the song is not limited to a wedding. According to the singers, they feel these sensations “every time” their lovers “walk into the room”.

Indeed Dan and Shay had been bedazzled by the appearance of their wives from the moment they first “said hello”. And it is obvious the lyrics of this track have been generalized so that any man deeply in love with his partner can relate to them.

In summation, “Speechless” is a love ballad inspired by the respective wedding ceremonies of Dan Smyers and his friend/bandmate Shay Mooney. Speaking to Peoplemagazine, Smyers said the song is inspired by he and Shay’s respective wedding days. According to him, it is about the speechlessness that overtook he and Shay on their respective wedding days when they first set their eyes on their respective brides as they walked down the aisle towards them.
