Monte Lipman: Founder of Republic Records
Monte Lipman is an American music industry executive who founded Republic Records and currently serves as its Chairman and CEO. He started his career at Arista Records and later became a promotion executive for EMI’s label SBK. In 1995, Lipman and his brother founded the independent record label Republic Records, with their first client being the Bloodhound Gang.
Lipman has worked with a number of popular artists throughout his career, including Taylor Swift, Amy Winehouse, Enrique Iglesias, and Florence + The Machine. In 2010, he was honored with the Humanitarian of the Year award from the TJ Martell Foundation and currently serves as a board member for that foundation and the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
After Universal Records bought out his and his brother’s interest in Republic Records, Lipman became the president of Universal Records in 2000. He is a graduate of the University of Albany.
