Toby was presumed dead on two different occasions; once after he ran away and another time when he was involved in a car accident in the episode ‘The Darkest Knight.’

He eventually reappeared both times, revealing that he was never dead. 

Toby was once part of the A-Team, a group he joined to protect Spencer, and worked as a carpenter before becoming a police officer.

His past is full of secrets and mysteries. He discovered that his mother did not commit suicide, as he previously believed, but was pushed off Radley’s roof by a girl named Bethany Young.

This revelation was a turning plot for him, and it led Toby to join the police force to seek justice for his mother and help others.

Throughout the series, the character struggles to balance his loyalty to the A-Team with his love for Spencer and his sense of justice.

He eventually decides to leave the A-Team and works with the Liars to take down A-Team, the mysterious figure who has been tormenting them.

Actor James Neate played Toby in the ‘Pilot’ episode, but Keegan Allen took over the role for the rest of the series.

Toby’s fake death is one of the most emotional moments in the show, and it is entirely due to Troian Bellisario’s acting. Although Toby faked his death twice in the show, he is very much alive.

In the season three finale, Toby is revealed to be part of the A-Team, and Spencer finds out about it. 

Before she finds out why, Spencer locates a dead body with a tattoo matching Toby’s, which leaves her devastated. 

The next few episodes are even harder to watch as Spencer falls into a deep depression. However, Toby had a lot to make up for when he was revealed to be alive in the season four finale.
