Tommy Stevens's Football Recruiting Profile

Personal Statement
My goals are to have the opportunity to major in Chemistry and play college football. I am a five sport athlete, competing in football, basketball, track and field, baseball. Year round, I travel 140 miles round trip to practice gymnastics. These 5 sport opportunities have taught me to remain competitive in whatever I do. Each sport has trained me in different aspects which has helped develop me into a better football player and person. Basketball has helped with agility and increasing my vertical, whereas baseball was beneficial towards advancing my timing and my hand-eye coordination. Speed and body control came from track and field; since freshman year I have competed in Pole Vault, and the 100 and 300 meter hurdles since. Lastly, gymnastics has taught me the most, having body control, stepping out of your comfort zone, confidence, balance, overall strength, and persistence. In gymnastics to master a skill, one must have persistence and confidence to try over and over again at the skill until finally one can master the skill.
I have played football since third grade. As a freshman, I started on varsity in four games at middle linebacker and in a three man rotation for running back. We ended the year 5-4, just missing out on the state playoffs in a heartbreaking last game, losing by one point. I was undersized for a middle backer at the time weighing 150lbs and only 5'7". Once the football season ended, I increased weight room time, lifting 1/2 hour before and two hours after basketball and track practice 3 times a week. Through all of this hard work I was able to gain 20lbs for my sophomore year. One Saturday I squatted 275 for ten sets of ten over 2 hours. This fall our coach chose me for the "Lifter of the Year"award.
This past year - my sophomore year - was a spectacular football season. We ended the year 11-2, runner-up in the C-1 state championship. All year, in every game, I gave everything I had, especially in the championship game; even though our team was down 35-7, and most of our team gave up, I gave my all. In that last game, I was privileged to play in 100 out of 130 plays.
I can't believe it's over. Training even harder this year than last.
