“Yellow Hearts” by Ant Saunders

Writer Scarlett Howard

In Ant Saunders’ “Yellow Hearts”, the singer laments being stuck in the friend zone. And the titular “yellow hearts” are symbolic of the way the addressee, his romantic interest, shows him affection in a manner which under his perception is so ambiguous that he cannot ascertain whether she is just a friend or something more.

Indeed the overall insinuation is that at some point they were in fact romantically involved. And succinctly put, he wants to know whether she still has feelings for him or not. Or rather she obviously has feelings, ‘putting his name with yellow hearts’ and all, apparently on social media. But not being up on the latest “trends” himself, he doesn’t know precisely what such means. And in the process of making such assertions, he also implies that she may be “playing games” with his emotions.

So all things considered, this sounds like a case whereas the addressee has already concluded that she and the singer are just friends. But since he has romantic feelings for her, he is not really able to accept that.

“Yellow Hearts” was written by Ant Saunders. And he released the track on 17 June 2019.

The song surprisingly managed to top the Global Viral 50 on Spotify, considering that at the time Saunders was just a local artist (from New Jersey).
