Zarifa Ghafari's husband, Bashir Mohammadi, is a former Director of Information & Culture at the Afghanistan Ministry of Information & Culture. 

He held the position from January 2007 until the Afghanistanian government fell in 2021. On top of his time at a government office in the Ministry of Information & Culture, he has worked for over 14 years in media management, youth affairs, and cultural and historical events management, according to his LinkedIn profile. 

The professional journalist Bashir has been working with his wife, Zarifa, on a radio station dedicated to women's rights. Bashir is currently living with his wife Zarifa in Bonn, Germany, after fleeing Afghanistan amid the Taliban attack and capture of the country on August 15, 2021. They arrived at Istanbul Airport on August 18, 2021, and later settled in Germany.
